I am new to Lunar (actually I am still downloading), but I was wondering do most users use Gnome or KDE? Or is there a mix?

Definitely, Gnome

Install minimal distro(only console), and try Garnome 2.12.0
It most stabler than debian-stable version, i swear!

http://cipherfunk.org/garnome/

IMHO, always, cvs version is most stable(except that the compiler like GCC)
Don't fool youself with the word "stable"..

My favourite:
xfce + rox for file management. runs fast even when my notebook is @600Mhz for power saving.

Well I have been using e17 for more then a year now. It is the coolest wm I have ever used, even that it is stille in heavy development.

KDE3.5 is already in the moonbase. All you have to do is "lin kde3".

Hi dveatch

My home machine (destined for lunar) is not on the internet. I need to do development work using KBasic, mysql and I need a few games and multimedia. Is lin modules not for internet connected machines? Heard I need to cache in /var/spool/lunar so I guess I need to download the tarballz and copy them there I guess then run some command.

Please help. Am I on the right track? If so, how do I know which tarballz, dependencies I need to download and once copied what are the commands to update?

You will need to go into the moonbase and look at the DEPENDS files for the modules that you want, and hope that all of the dependencies are listed. Or you can use lvu tree module to show you graphically. The colour coding and bracketing shows what is already installed and what is optional. (Note that until you have installed some of the 'lower level' modules that the display may keep on looping.) Graphical applications do not have explicit dependencies on X, so you will need to install XOrg (and XOrg-fonts-base and XOrg-fonts-extra) before you start installing the graphical applications. Maybe you could try lvu tree XOrg to start with.

Once you know what modules you need, you can either go to the DETAILS files for those modules to extract the URLs, or go to the mirror-urls.txt file that is described in Installion: No network (which used to be called Installation without a [fast] network)

Are you going to have a network connection at home, or can you piggy-back on a friend's network for a few days? Let lin and friends take the strain for you while you get the initial environment set up.
