I have tried to install Lunar Linux v1.60 rc1 and it presents the initial pages with F-f4 as options and explains each as you would expect. But when I try to go any further, the screen goes black and stays that way. There is some CD activity.....which stops after a few moments. The screen stays dark.
I have also tried to explicitly choose from among the list of video modes offered. I tried 0, 1,6,7,8,9 and 13. (IIRC). None of them worked and the screen goes black and stays black.
The video adaptor is a Gainward GeForce2-MX400 AGP card with 64MB on board. The monitor is a 17", badged Hewlett Packard, with the model number of D2837.
I've never had any trouble with this combination before - including the FreeBSD 6.0 install I did yesterday. At the moment, the hard drive is one slice and contains BSD only. I was hoping to re-partition with Lunar Linux. Not sure this is relevant. It should not affect the video.
I saw the notice about Lunar Linux on Distrowatch and thought it sounded good. I'm looking for a source-based distro that is simpler to install than Gentoo. This was my first experience with Lunar Linux....and as this is a release candidate, I thought you might like some feedback.
Hope this is useful and I hope you get it sorted out as I would like to be able to install your distro.
I tried to log this in the bug tracker, but after typing in all the info, it errored out due to invalid data in some field (not specified) and when I went back, all the stuff I had typed in was gone. Too hard.....so I'm posting the info here. |
