Hey guys,

I got a problem with connecting to the internet with the 2.6.16 kernel and lunar 1.6.0. I took me about 24u to solve the problem, but i did not figure out what the problem was. The sollution of my problem, was using the saved configuration of 1.6.0rc1 this one connected out of the box. I compared the two configurations but dit not find anything different. I got the same problem with Gentoo. So it's something between dhcpcd and the kernel. Can someone help me further.

Thanks guys

Sorry, i thought i was clear with my story.. Smile

My problem is as follow:

I installed Lunar 1.6.0, compiled a kernel from source. Everything went well, network adapter was loaded. But wen i tried to get my IP with dhcpcd, it failed. If i filled in manualy IP and the adapter was loaded and i could ping to my router. But i could not get a internet connecten, probbely this had to do with my incompenance. I even tried a ne2000 compatible network adapter but with no luck and i used a precompiled kernel, same problem. The next morning i remember i had the same problem after upgrading to a newer kernel after the installation of 1.6.0rc1. The installation of 1.6.0 rc1 went lik a train, out of the box with dhcpcd a IP adres. So i used the save config of the precompiled kernel and used it in 1.6.0. Problem solved, but i could not find any difrents in the config files of the kernel, maybe i lookt over it.

So my problem is, that i can't get a internet connection using the precompiled kernels and source kernel of 1.6.0, only wen is use the config of 1.6.0rc1 and compile my kernel. But i cant find the diffrence.

I use a network adapter with Uli526x and a rt2500 chipset and tested with a ne2k-pci compatible. My router is LinkSys and my cable modem is connected to chello with a thomson.I had the same problem with my cheep sweex router.

I have to say, my system is working now, using dhcpcd an lunar 1.6.0, but i don't know what the problem was/is..

Thanks

well the problem is that you provide a lot of information on a simple problem (not getting a dhcp lease). The first thing I would look at is any syslog or console messages. you can start dhcpcd with debugging output which is quite verbose, so that is a good place to start. This is the type of information that we really need Smile

Quick way to renew your lease is reset your dsl/cable modem box Smile then run dchpcd and it will work fine
