|
|
hi!
new here! before i even start to install i want to make sure i'll be able to use the network to install.
i'm coming from being a knoppix user on this system, to here, wanting an hd-installed linux system.
the network card that is in the system works fine with knoppix after i load the ndiswrapper module. it's a linksys wireless b v.2.7 card, with generic windows drivers.
will lunar-linux be able to work with this during the installation?
how about a samba server?
last, but not least, how much hardware does lunar-linux autodetect? i have a bunch of spare parts from a friend i've put together - knoppix autodetects all hardware, so i really have no idea the make/model or any techical details about any of my peripherals.
actually, one other question - does lunar-linux work with KDE as a window system?
sorry if these are completely stupoid questions, i really want to find a linux distribution that will do what i need it to do on this frankenstien system
any and all help is greatly appreciated! _________________ Sincerely,

Well....They have these things called documentation that answer many of your questions....The netcard driver is probably on the ISO, as it's a common one. Samba can be installed via lin samba. And as far as KDE goes, you can install it, after a hell of a lot of xorg or xfree86 dependencies, and probably a solid day of compiling if you have a fast system. _________________ In Soviet Russia, ISOs install you. |

ndiswrapper is available on the 1.6.0 series which is in testing, but you will need to add the windows NDIS driver to ndiswrapper yourself as windows drivers cannot be packaged on the lunar ISO's due to license restrictions

Samba is not available from the lunar ISO - of course once you have your lunar computer connected to the internet you can install samba by doing a `lin samba`.

Quite a bit - lunar-linux uses "discover" to autodetect hardware - this detects pretty much all common hardware that is supported by the linux kernels - including sound.

You have the choice of running all major desktop systems - Gnome, KDE, Xfce, blackbox, icewm, enlightenment (both e17-dev and e16), etc etc etc.
remember that none of these packages come preinstalled. You will have to install them using the lunar package management system. |
