The install script didn't succeed in installing grub on the MBR -- although it reported a successful grub install. Installing recently on a Tobshiba A-10 laptop, the script appeared to be attempting to write grub to (h0,2), a nonexistent partition on my machine, rather than (hd0) as I would have expected.
Fortunately I had a grub boot cd, so I was able to boot my new system that way, then install grub. This wouldn't have worked had I not known the name of the kernel file. |

grub is broken on almost every older iso - however you can always use tab-completion to find your kernel image!!! grub can read the available files on any filesystem and so it's really easy to insert the right kernel image. |

Really? I didn't know that. I must've missed that when I read the grub manual. Thanks. |

not GRUB itself is broken, but the lunar installer code that installs grub. I always talk in context, so please try to read in context too. |

I recall having once installed Lunar from an earlier release candidate ISO, and it kept trying to unsuccessfully install at /dev/root. However, this Grub has little trouble.
It got so bad that I had to boot Lunar from my Gentoo's Grub on a different partition. |

since 1.6.0-final lunar installs properly on any single-hard disk system, either with grub or lilo. I don't know why you are fooling around with '/dev/root' but you don't need to in any case.
also, if you are doing multi-distro installation then PLEASE SKIP THE BOOTLOADER PART. lunar's bootloader handling might not be appropriate for you and you should really be doing the bootloader installation manually to assure that you can boot both operating systems.
lunar's installer is not a swiss knife with 200 tools - it's only a plain kitchen knife without frills and one blade. It can't do tricks. |
