For those who are interested in xorg7, we have put together a small howto on the wiki:

I'm running xorg-7.0 (not 7.1!) on my laptop here - including 100% accelerated fglrx (I added the "xf86-video-fglrx" ati binary driver for your convenience). (and happy too!)

It took a while to install and the ride was bumpy, so go help out and test this bundle so we can smooth out the bumps!
