|
|
Hi
I tried to install Lunar using this ISO 1.6.2-beta1 (i686).
I went through the options and in the end nothing was installed to the hard drive.
startxfce4 didn't do anything.
Maybe my head is in my butt & I just wasn't thinking straight. ' '
Any ideas ? I mean besides pulling my head out of my butt. ' '
Thanks

can you explain a little bit more what steps you followed and whether lunar actually transferred packages to your system etc?
if nothing got installed, then obviously startxfce4 will not work ... you never installed anything! right?
Xfce4 is NOT available when you RUN the iso, you have to install your lunar system first (then reboot) before it is available. |

Did you visit every screen in the 1.6.2-beta1 installer sequence (even if just to look)?
Did you get as far as the 'Install Lunar?' screen, or did the process abort before then?
I was going to point you at the 1.5.0 Installer screenshots which are similar, but these
are in alphabetical and not installion order. Did you see all of these screens? The 1.6.2
sequence also has some extra screens, but the basics are the same.
I just reinstalled the Lunar 1.6.2-beta1 ISO on an old machine the other night, and the
first time it failed because I was re-using partitions from a previous installer and the disk
had developed some bad blocks. But you get very noticeable error messages when it
can't install. When I started again and said 'yes' to check the partitions for errors before
installation, everything went smoothly. Could you have a similar problem?
Could you try again, and note down which screens you saw, and your responses
Then report the results here so that someone has better chance of helping you.
[The core installation didn't take me more than 20 minutes, although compiling a kernel
will obviously take time, and the older the machine, the longer it will take]
Good luck |

Ok this did it @ home.
Options selected
key board map
Console font
Language
Editor
Partition disk
cfdisk
hda1 500 mb
hda2 20 gb
hda3 60 gb
select target partitions "did not turn green when done"
/boot ext3 formated it
/var ext3 formated it
/usr ext3 formated it
select swap file "in red"
install lunar "in red"
all the rest of the option in red
Could it be the way I set up my target partitions? |

On my current desktop box, I have: Code: |
/dev/sda1 /boot 1 Gb
/dev/sda2 swap 2 Gb
/dev/sda3 / 80Gb
/dev/sda4 /home <rest of disk>
|
Please tell me you didn't forget to allocate a partition for root / did you
