You may remember my previous post about using OSS. This seems to work now, except I can only play sound as root. I find that a bit unfortunate.
Could anyone give me a clue as to what I am missing? The only files I know that are relevant for OSS are /dev/mixer and /dev/dsp.
I use Audacious, and it speaks of default mixer. This is what, now? |

On previous installs I remember having to add myself to the 'audio' group, but since my last
re-install I haven't done that and I can play the audio without problem. If I ls /dev/sound
however, I see that all of the files are owned by me, with group = audio, even though I don't
remember running chown... so maybe something else takes care of ownership. |

Hm. It seems that even if I chown the files, I still get zip. /me is puzzled. |

I made some group adjustments, so it reads:
wheel cdrom audio video games usb users
I still get the same result as my user. I have wheel as my default group. |

you might have removed PCM/OSS emulation support in alsa. Check your kernel config, if needed modprobe your snd-* modules. |

Does it matter, when I have ripped out ALSA? OSS and my via82cxxx_audio module is compiled in, and everything works when I modprobe the module. Still, only as root. |
