|
|
I know there is not much activity on this forum and using the IRC could be easy but I have no time now to go to the chatroom.
Yesterday I tried to install Lunar for the first time but I got very fast this message:
ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [cfb8cdec] 'on'
It does not seem to hurt the process but for being sure I decided to wait for an advice.
So my question is: do you think it could be the source of some problems or can I go on without sorrows?
Thanks

I saw that you asked the same question on #lunar, and just so that the question isn't left dangling here, I'll cut and paste those replies in case other users end up here after searching...

[21:49:00] thibdb13 | Hello! I have a question: Yesterday I tried to install Lunar for the first time but got very fast this message:
[21:49:00] thibdb13 | ACPI: Unable to turn cooling device [cfb8cdec] 'on' It does not seem to hurt the process but for being sure I decided to wait for an advice.
[21:50:28] Moe | thibdb13: Is that a laptop?
[21:51:01] thibdb13 | No, a common desktop
[21:51:36] Moe | hm .. a new one?
[21:51:43] Moe | I mean .. are the components new?
[21:52:25] thibdb13 | 2 years old
[21:54:38] Moe | thibdb13: I'd ignore that warning then .. probably harmless
[21:54:48] thibdb13 | It happens just at the beginning of the installation process - so no /dev/dvd or /dev/cd
[21:54:59] dveatch | thibdb13, so long as all fans *are really* turning while lunar is up, its probably not to big an issue.
[21:56:16] thibdb13 | I think this is a (temporary) problem with the modules. I am now using arch linux and there is not such a problem with it when loading the acpi modules
[21:57:27] Moe | thibdb13: Could be ..
[22:02:34] thibdb13 | And still another question '< : is there a module with windows media player codecs?
[22:03:44] Moe | thibdb13: w32codecs
[22:04:42] thibdb13 | Moe: thanks x

This problem with ACPI is really inconvenient: every 10 seconds the system is writing such a line and pushes so the screen up and up.
For example: when trying to partition my hard disc with cfdisk, I could not see (after one or two minutes) my partition list and so could not know what is happening. Really uncomfortable!!
Is there no mean to stop it? |

I found the solution!!
When starting the installation, you just have to write:
linux acpi=off |
