Most of my friends are either loyal to Windows or don't want to bother with some "geek" operating system. So I make an effort to try to impress them with my Linux installations. I use a nice, pretty display manager (entrance) and a highly configurable desktop that looks really cool and sleek and techy (not KDE....That's teh suck. Smile I am of course referring to Fluxbox. Smile) So, I'd like some tips on one or more of the following, if possible.
1. Place some sort of background ghost image when I boot Lunar. (have the image in the bg, while the text scrolls by. Sorta like the Gentoo console.)
2. Framebuffer with the Lunar LInux logo at top (the logo in the top left of the webpage)
3. In LILO or GRUB, when I default to Lunar, show a large image as it boots for a few seconds, and then to framebuffer mode.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Smile

Download a theme from www.bootsplash.de.. If you use one that has an 800x600 image, no changes need to be made to the vga mode in grub. The initrd image needs to be recreated with: mkinitrd -o /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-adeos 2.6.10-adeos

Then we can add the new theme to the initrd.img with:

splash -s -f /etc/bootsplash/themes/default/config/bootsplash-800x600.cfg >> /boot/initrd.img-2.6.10-adeos

If you want to use a 1024x768 or 640x400, the correct bootsplash-*.cfg will have to be used and the vga option in grub's menu.lst will need altering.

Thanks. ^_^ Damn...You got more posts in 2 days than I did in 2.5 months...Heh...D-Day! ^_^ Oh...Another thing that probably involves framebuffers...How do I get different shit on monitor 2 in fb mode (maybe just a picture or something), and run a different virtual console on monitor 2? I'm thinking the 2nd would involve use of screen...

I just got around to trying to make a bootsplash today. I can't seem to make it work with my 2.6.14.3 kernel...Can someone sorta post a full howto for me? Everything from patching the kernel to appending shit to lilo.conf
