I'm trying to get ALSA up and running on a new install. This is the first time I've tried out Lunar Linux, but I've been using gentoo for quite some time, so I'm no stranger to compiling or cli system configuration.

I entered the following command:

Code:
lin -cr alsa-lib alsa-driver alsa-utils

And the modules compiled successfully, leaving this rather unsettling output behind:

Code:
Storing ALSA mixer settings...
alsactl: save_state:1163: No soundcards found...
Restoring ALSA mixer settings...
alsactl: load_state:1236: No soundcards found...

When I try to run alsamixer to set levels and unmute channels, I get the following error message:

Code:
 # alsamixer

alsamixer: function snd_ctl_open failed for default: No such file or directory

What have I done wrong?

Using the 2.4.31-agr kernel/patchset.

Any chance that you could provide a hint on how you solved it: "problem solved on IRC" doesn't help anyone else who searches the forums.

Did you need to do anything above and beyond what I have described, albeit briefly, on my User_talk:Englesman page about my ALSA configuration so far?

The proper sound module was not loaded. All my previous experience with ALSA has been with the 2.6 kernel, which doesn't require that step in order to work.
