Crying or Very sad I downloaded Lunar Linux and installed it. Now i was got to the console. When i do

df -k command, it shows that the install occupied nearly 800 MB. Whats actually there in that 800 MB. I cannot see even X11 in /etc. Now does this ISO contain X-Windows and Window Managers?

If so how can i install them?

The Lunar Linux ISO contains enough to install a working, but minimal system on most common hardware combinations. From there you can download the software you need to customise you system as you want it, whether that is as a lean and mean firewall or mail and web server, or as a fully featured user desktop.

Therefore if you want X on your system, you will need to
Code:
lin XOrg XOrg-fonts-base XOrg-fonts-extra

You can then run startx which will give you the minimal twm window manager, so at least you have multiple windows for working while you download and build whichever window manager you really want.

I went through all of this last year, and documented my experiences of installing Lunar as a newbie on my User Talk page.

Hi,
i tried those commands

lin XOrg XOrg-fonts-base etc

but its identifying the packages to be installed and finally it looks for some tar.gz file which it could not find as it tries to search the net.

My query is does the XOrg installation require an active internet connection or can it be installed offline i.e does all dependencies come along with lunar?

as is said in the documentation... installation of a Lunar Linux box is easiest with an active internet connection.
Like engelsman told you the only thing on the installation cd is basic linux tools... no packages or other programs are provided.
if you want to torment yourself with a no network installation :

I'm sorry, I assumed from your original message that you had downloaded the ISO from the internet and that you therefore had an internet connection.

As mentioned before, installing from the ISO gives you a minimalist system, that you are free to configure how you want. But that does mean that you will need to download the additional modules that you require from somewhere. The most convenient source for these modules is obviously a direct connection from your Lunar machine to the internet. There are people on the #lunar channel who successfully run Lunar with only dial-up modem connections to the internet. You can also use a different system to download modules, copy them to transferable media such as CD or DVD, and then copy them to your Lunar system.

This is described on the Installing Lunar without a [fast] network documentation page.

Note that when I tried this last summer, before I got my internet connection at home, the moonbase contained 2330 modules that occupied a total of 4.3Gb, and I gave up after burning 8 CDs with DOS 8.3 filenames by mistake Crying or Very sad

Really? Who has dialup? I used Archlinux when I had dialup, and installed Lunar the day I got broadband.
